Explaining Two Slot Machine Terms

When reading some slot machine reviews, or other types of writing about slots, it's very easy to get caught up by some of the jargon. Video Slots, like anything else, have their own certain sub-culture and terms that it is very easy for those in the know to use without explanation.
The first you often see is scatter symbols. Scatter symbols can be an important part of slot machine games. They can offer wins in their own right, or help trigger features, or both. The reason they are called scatter symbols is because they don't have to all be on the same winning line for you to win. They can appear anywhere on the five reels, in any order and still earn you that all important payout.
Substitute symbols are also great news. They will act as wild, in other words, they can represent any other symbol that can make you a winning line on your favourite games. The substitutes will greatly enhance your chance of a win. If you are playing a new slot it's well worth clicking the help tab, or payout table, so you get to learn the scatter and substitute symbols. It adds to the fun and excitement and may help you find a better slot that pays out more generously.
With slots games becoming increasingly more complicated - some even abandoning the concept of winning lines - it's only going to become more and more of a challenge to understand the terms beyond tight or loose slots. Make sure you learn to stay ahead of the games!
