TV and Slot Machine Tie Ins - Do They Work?

The world of TV is bound to appeal to fans and designers of video slot machines, or slot machine games in general. A TV theme is bound to attract the more casual player who is new to slots, but who seems the name of their favourite drama, quiz or sitcom and has their eyes light up.
Quiz shows naturally work well with online slots and especially the bonus game that are a big part of the video slot experience. Two example of UK game shows that are now video slots are Blankety Blank and Sale of the Century. Sale of the Century features the authentic music from the 70's quiz and does really well in reflecting the slightly cheesy aspects of the game. Blankety Blank also has bonus rounds similar to the TV show.
If you head to any Vegas casino, you'll also see row upon row of Wheel of Fortune based slots that prove consistently busy.
Getting rights to other TV characters or shows seems to be proving more difficult for slot machine designers. There are perhaps narrow minded concerns about having "family" shows associated with gambling, though a Sex and the City slot has been released, on the other hand, that has nothing but adult themes. The shows that do turn into slots tend to be ones that have come off air - you can play Happy Days, or even the Munsters if you are so minded. What could be more wholesome than Richie and the Fonz?
There are also adaptations of adaptations. Comic books have inspired both TV and slot spin offs. You can play Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman slots - and who wouldn't want to have some fun with Lynda Carter in her prime?
TV and slots will be together to a point, but as the marketplace gets more and more saturated, the value of TV tie ins might not be so effective.
